PBUUC Resources for Parents and R.E. Teachers

Being a parent is the hardest and most rewarding thing one can do. Another tough but rewarding job is to volunteer to teach a new generation of religious seekers currently enrolled in the Religious Education program. We at PBUUC believe that parents and R.E. teachers can be more effective with their children when they get to share tips and tricks among each other. Here are a few resources for parents and R.E. teachers.

Mothers of Young Children meet socially (without the kids) every month for relaxed conversation at the home of a fellow member. A great way to wind down at the end of a busy week, this group provides us with a way to get to know the other moms at PBUUC, a forum for discussing issues of concern or interest (not necessarily having to do with children), and an opportunity to talk at length with each other without having to stop and pour juice or settle disputes. Get-togethers are usually on the third Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. There is also a mailing list where people can discuss issues online. For more information and to subscribe to the mailing list, contact Julie Dahmer at jcdahmer@erols.com.

Mothers of Teens is similar to Mothers of Young Children except the focus is on the challenges of raising adolescents.

REC-Room: Unitarian Universalist Religious Education Curricula Resource is a web site for Religious Exploration teachers and directors that provide help and advice on how to deal with students. This site includes multiple mailing lists for teachers (with each list based on the age of the pupils) and reviews of various curricula.

Marriage Enrichment Groups. In a family the parent-and-child relationship is not the only main focus of a stable family. Parents also need to focus on each other in order to maintain a stable family unit. Marriage Enrichment Groups consist of groups of four to six couples who meet monthly to encourage, nurture, or sustain the ongoing growth and enrichment of the marriage relationship of each couple within the group. They are introduced to the concept and processes of growth and enrichment in relationships. In this supportive environment, couples in these groups can begin to gain the motivation and tools needed for relationship growth. Contact Barbara and Don Fairfield at bdfair@erols.com.
