Director of Music
David Chapman has degrees in music and performance from San Jose State University, Eastman School of Music, Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, and University of Maryland at College Park. He was a Fulbright scholar in solo piano performance for two years to Stuttgart, Germany.
During the 11 years he lived in Germany and Italy, David performed in recitals, coached, recorded, conducted and arranged music in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Hungary and Germany. He has performed in many important venues such as Carnegie Hall, National Gallery of Art and the Kennedy Center Opera House. He musically directed, as well as stage directed, many musicals and operas and has himself performed on stage in nineteen lead or character roles. David recorded solo piano music for the motion picture “The Successor.”
David began teaching vocalists in 1990. Since then he has given voice master classes in Oklahoma, Nebraska, China and Russia. He is a founding member of Vocal Arts International, a member of the Friday Morning Music Club, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the Unitarian Universalist Musicians Network. David has collaborated as pianist and coach with internationally known dramatic soprano Alessandra Marc for the last seven years. He is a member of the Friday Morning Music Club and NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing).
David is completing his 16th year as Music Director and Pianist at PBUUC. He has a large private voice teaching practice, which includes a number of Paint Branch students.
Under David’s leadership our Choir has grown from 12 to 35 members. David, along with the Arts Council, regularly host multiple outside-talent concerts each year, along with a variety of special concerts of PBUUC congregational talent.
